Breaking The Glass Ceiling: How Real Estate Careers Empowers Women
In this month’s blog, I’d like to address the impact of women in Real Estate.
While many industries have built-in hindrances for women to climb the ladder of success, the Real Estate industry is different.
Women can and do find overwhelming success in the Residential Real Estate industry for many reasons. But the most important reason is that this industry allows everyone- man or woman- to define success on their terms. Here’s how a career in real estate empowers women!
Financial Upside of Real Estate for Women
For those with an entrepreneurial spirit, the sky is the limit. The financial upside to becoming a Residential Broker is boundless. Some Brokers may want to just list and sell on their own and have the empowerment to set their own schedule and control their own destiny. Others may find they are good at selling but great at managing. For them, starting their own brokerage means they can manage their own buying and selling and partner and train newer Brokers. In this situation, you will make a portion of the commission from the production of these Brokers, so you will have multiple income streams. And for those of us of a certain age, we know having multiple income streams can protect us from the vicissitudes of the economy.
And, should you want to have children and take some time off, you can do that at any time and for any duration.
Maybe you have an artistic flair. Interior designers and home stagers are in demand! Your love of colors, forms, and functions can create a nice income. Don’t let people in your past who have dismissed these skills stop you from starting a business, maximizing your flair for the artistic. All it takes is courage.
Property Management Opportunities
What if you are an organizational genius? Guess what? Property management desperately needs people to ensure to-do lists get made and boxes checked! I know at Safe Harbor, we have so many plates in the air; we depend on organizational types to make sure bills get paid, work orders are requested and fulfilled, background checks are filed, and more. The Residential Real Estate field needs backroom people as much or more so than the classical salesperson.
How do I know all of this? Easy…I’ve filled all these roles at one point or another.
To find out more, please go to the web site: Women’s Council of Realtors. This site informs viewers about many local projects and opportunities for women in the Residential Real Estate Sector. If you venture into Real Estate, this group ensures you won’t feel alone.
In essence, women still have a way to go in many fields of business in America. But in the Residential Real Estate arena, women can pretty much be as empowered as you want to be. These glass ceilings have been shattered, and if we find any more above us -watch out- glass will be falling.
